BICYCLE TOURING IN MALAYSIA & THAILAND
We offer our training camp option both as stand-alone events, and as open templates for teams or groups looking to run cycling training camps in Southeast Asia, and who wish to take advantage of our event operation, logistical coordination, and local knowledge.
Our camps can be set up to run for any duration, and are defined by location, with the local topography, and facilities, setting differences in agenda for type of training available.
Our own camps draw from our collective knowledge in sport training, with valuable input and direction from guest coaches and other experts, and with presentations on a variety of cutting-edge concepts in training for cycling and endurance sport.
KUALA LUMPUR TRAINING CAMP
A training camp out of Kuala Lumpur offers possibly the most variety of all the regional options, along with the attractions (and distractions!) of a major city.
While avoidance of inner city traffic presents some challenges, the extensive network of smaller roads around the area, and the proximity of the Titiwangsa mountain range, mean that there are an abundance of great, hilly routes on offer.
Road Training Features:
Hills - long gradual climbs at average 3-4% up to 40km distance. 8-10% average gradient climbs up to 10km distance. Other assorted sharp climbs above 15% for distances up to 1.5km.
Rolling terrain - an extensive network of relatively quiet roads that can be arranged to provide routes of pretty much any length desired.
Flats - we also have a couple of favourite routes for fast paceline sessions on open roads and lesser used highway sections with mostly excellent smooth surfaces.
Other Features:
Pool, gym, massage, seminar rooms, massive local selection of restaurants, cafes, bars.
JANDA BAIK TRAINING CAMP
For this one, we have most of the same routes available as in Kuala Lumpur, the main difference being that we're based in a countryside resort 30 km out of the city. This means that, though we no longer have the city center amenities, we also lose the need to avoid city traffic.
Our location gives us immediate access to some of the best routes, and a better environment in which to relax and recover, as well as plenty of on-site facilities for meetings, lectures and discussions.

CAMERON TRAINING CAMP
Basing ourselves in the lofty altitudes of Cameron Highlands gives us a very clear main agenda of long gradual climbs. Though we can find plenty of shorter, tougher sections for variety, the length of the main climbs means that most rides are long and involve only either descending or ascending.
The clean, cooler, mountain air of Cameron is a great draw for those in the area looking for a respite from tropical humidity, and the fruit farms and tea plantations provide us with plenty of fresh local produce, which is in abundant supply in the great local food outlets.
Road Training Features:
Hills, Hills and more Hills - long climbs of up to 50km at an average of 3-5%, some including longer sections at steeper gradients of up to 10%. Some sections at higher averages for 5-8km and even some sections at above 20% though these are poorly paved and not recommended on road bikes.
Other Features:
Possible inclusion of pool and gym facilities, massage, seminar rooms, routes for running, hiking, sightseeing, abundant local restaurants.
LANGKAWI TRAINING CAMP
The island of Langkawi provides us with a more open agenda. Though there are some good climbs, the majority of the routes on the island feature rolling-to-flat terrain.
The proximity to great, long beaches and sheltered, calm seas mean that this is an ideal location for a more triathlon-orientated camp agenda.
As this is one of the most well-rounded tourist destinations in the area, it also provides us with a perfect opportunity for a more relaxed camp, more focused on team-bonding, and with the possibility of accommodating partners or families.
Road Training Features:
Hills - One long climb of 13km at an average of 7% with a short section at the top above 20%. Other assorted shorter climbs.
Rolling terrain - some sections of the island involve a fair variety of undulations.
Flats - most of the island offers routes that are fairly flat.
Other Features:
Beaches, sea swimming, pools, gym, massage, seminar rooms, routes for running, hiking, beach sports, canopy walks, local restaurants, bars and cafes.
CHIANG MAI TRAINING CAMP
The Northern Thailand city of Chiang Mai is fast becoming a magnet for cycling teams in the region looking for great hill training.
The variety of routes is amazing, most of them involve a fair amount of climbing, and the gradients vary wildly, with guaranteed regular instances of climbs in excess of 20%.
The city as a base offers a bewildering array of world-class eateries, coffee houses and night spots, and the ubiquitous Thai spas and massage parlours mean that the next massage is just around the corner. Great for recovering after hard rides.
This lively, cosmopolitan city still has it's authentic traditional roots intact, but has developed one of the more interesting communities of global emigrees that have adapted and contributed considerably to the charm of the local culture.
Whether you're on your bike or off, Chiang Mai will capture your heart!
Road Training Features:
Hills - An almost eldless variety, including the daunting 40km climb of Doi Inthanon which rises up to an altitude of 2600m and offers some sections at 20% and above.
Rolling terrain - hills are hard to avoid here but it can be just about done, though some of the rolling is definitely not for the big ring.
Flats - some sections between hills offer flatter routes, though many of these are quite busy highways.
Other Features:
Pool, gym, massage, spas, seminar rooms, routes for running, hiking, great coffee, local restaurants, bars and cafes.
There are a few major safety considerations both due to the climate and the terrain.
SUN: You will be riding in the tropics, and though we start the rides as early as possible to avoid the afternoon sun, you can get seriously burnt in a very short time.
HILLS: Though not all the gradients are massive, there are always ascents/descents involved in our rides.
We therefore recommend making sure you have the following:
